Academic background
Prof. Billy Kariaga holds a doctorate in Entomology — the scientific study of insects, their biology, behaviour, and ecological impact. This is not a ceremonial title. It means every treatment protocol used by The Pest Exterminator Company Limited is grounded in peer-reviewed science, not guesswork. His academic training covers insect taxonomy, pest population dynamics, integrated pest management (IPM), and the environmental chemistry of pesticides and their safe application in human environments.
Founding and industry experience
Prof. Kariaga founded the company in 2004 with a clear mandate: to bring evidence-based, scientifically rigorous pest management to Kenya’s commercial and residential market. Over 20 years he has built the organisation from a single-operator practice into a multi-sector environmental management firm serving 400+ locations across Kenya, South Sudan, and Rwanda. His direct involvement in major accounts — including Java House, Naivas Supermarkets, Simbisa Brands, and the Office of the President — reflects a leadership philosophy that stays close to service delivery rather than delegating it entirely.
Regulatory and compliance expertise
Prof. Kariaga’s scientific background directly informs the company’s compliance posture. He has guided the organisation’s registration with NEMA, HACCP certification, and strict adherence to the Public Health Act Cap 242, the Food, Drugs and Chemical Substances Act Cap 254, the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2007, and General Food Law Regulation (EC) 178/2002. In food-sector engagements, he applies the seven principles of HACCP as a framework for identifying and controlling pest-related critical control points — an approach that has earned long-term trust from demanding clients such as Java House and Naivas Supermarkets.
Research and development
The company employs dedicated research scientists in insect and environmental health sciences under Prof. Kariaga’s direction. This internal research capacity allows the company to continuously evaluate new pesticide formulations, application methods, and integrated pest management strategies — ensuring that treatments remain effective against evolving pest resistance while minimising environmental and human health impact. It is what separates a scientifically led operation from a commodity service.
Environmental responsibility
Under Prof. Kariaga’s stewardship, the company is an active donor to Rhino Ark Kenya — a conservation charity building an electrified fence around the Aberdares National Park to protect critical forest habitat. This commitment reflects a philosophy that pest control and environmental stewardship are not in conflict: controlling pests protects human health, while protecting natural ecosystems prevents the ecological imbalances that create pest pressure in the first place.

Corporate social responsibility
We are duly registered by NEMA and actively committed to supporting the conservation and protection of the environment. We donate funds to Rhino Ark, a charity based in Kenya and the UK with a mission to raise funds and material support to build an electrified fence encircling the Aberdares National Park and surrounding forestry areas — preventing illegal exploitation of forest habitat and promoting sustainable use of environmental products for current and future generations.
